About the brand

Who is DayRoll?

DayRoll is an Australian owned camera brand based in Victoria, Australia. We sell direct to customers in Australia, New Zealand, the United States and Canada through this website. Support is handled by our own team at support@dayroll.co.

Where are DayRoll cameras made and where do they ship from?

Our cameras are manufactured overseas, not in Australia, and they ship from our overseas fulfilment partner. We are Australian owned, but we are not an Australian manufacturer and we do not hold local stock. That is why delivery takes 6 to 11 business days rather than 2. We would rather tell you that up front than surprise you after checkout.

The cameras

What is a digicam?

A digicam is a small, simple digital camera, usually a compact point and shoot, that produces warm, grainy, early 2000s looking photos without any editing. The word now describes a look as much as a category of hardware.

Which DayRoll should I buy, the Q5 or the Q6 Max?

Buy the Q5 DigiCam if you want the classic digicam look in the smallest and simplest package: 4K photo and video, 16x digital zoom, a flip screen, 15 built in filters and a 32GB card included. Buy the Q6 Max if you want more camera: 64MP photos, 18x zoom, a real built in flash, two batteries and 64GB of storage, which matters on longer trips. The Q6 Max Pro is the same Q6 in a fuller kit, not a different camera.

Do the photos really look retro with no editing?

Yes. The warm, grainy look is produced in the camera, using the same CCD style approach that gave 2000s point and shoots their character. There is no app, no filter step and no editing. What the camera writes to the card is what you get.

Do I need film, an app or my phone?

None of the three. DayRoll cameras are fully reusable digital cameras. There is no film to buy and no developing cost, and no app or phone is needed to shoot. Photos are written to the included SD card and moved across with the supplied USB card reader and mobile adapter.

Is the image quality as good as my phone?

No, and that is deliberate. A modern phone will beat a DayRoll on sharpness, low light and dynamic range every time. A DayRoll is bought for character: grain, warmth and hard direct flash. If you want the cleanest possible photo, your phone is the better tool. If you want a photo that looks like a memory, this is the one.

Does it shoot video?

Yes. Both cameras record 4K video as well as stills, to the same SD card.

What is in the box?

With the Q5 DigiCam: the camera, a 32GB SD card pre loaded and ready to shoot, a USB card reader and mobile adapter, a carrying pouch, a wrist strap, a rechargeable battery and a USB charging cable.

What colours are available?

The Q5 DigiCam comes in Black, Orange and White, sold as Pearl. The Q6 Max comes in Black.

Buying, shipping and returns

How long does delivery take?

Orders are processed within 1 to 3 business days. Standard shipping is free everywhere we ship: Australia 8 to 10 business days, New Zealand 6 to 10, United States 6 to 10, Canada 6 to 11. Paid priority options are available at checkout. A tracking link is emailed once your order ships.

Can I return it if I change my mind?

Eligible unused products can be returned within 30 days of delivery. Prior written approval is required, the product must be complete and in its original packaging, and return postage is paid by the customer. Read the conditions in the refund policy before you order, because change of mind returns on a used camera are not covered.

What about my consumer rights?

Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, and the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act where it applies, sit on top of our voluntary policy and are never reduced by it. If a camera is faulty, not as described, or fails to do what it should, those rights apply regardless of the 30 day window.

Is the grain a fault?

No. Grain, warm colour and a strong flash are the intended look and are not treated as a fault under our change of mind policy. We say this plainly because it is the most common misunderstanding we see. If your camera is genuinely defective, that is a different matter and consumer law covers it.
